We are very happy to be able to present you the new issue of Modern Democracy, some of you already found it in their mailbox. This second magazine is an important cornerstone for electronic democracy in general and the Competence Center, in specific.

In May 2009, and for the first time in any Austrian Election, voters in the Austrian Federation of Students’ election were able to cast their votes via the Internet and in October 2009, Estonians could vote via Internet for their local parliaments. It was the fifth election with an electronic voting channel in Estonia and established with more than 100.000 E-Voters a new international remarkable benchmark. This clearly indicates the path of Modern Democracy and we invite to join us in discussing, analyzing and developing the future of democracy in this issue of Modern Democracy.

The Modern Democracy Magazine launched at the beginning of 2009 and the first issue was an overwhelming success; we are very pleased with your response and are proud that we now have 2,000 subscribers worldwide with membership growing all the time.
The current issue provides you with a deeper look into Election Observation of Modern Democracy, you can read an on-site experience report about the development and implementation of the German voting navigator and much more.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue of Modern Democracy and we are looking forward to your feedback, comments and suggestion at modern-democracy@e-voting.cc.
Also if you have any question or would like to contribute to the next issue on „E-Democracy in developing countries“ with an article or short news please don’t hesitate to contact me by e-mail or phone.

Cover-Proceedings-2008

The 2008 conference on Electronic Voting took place in Castle Hofen near Bregenz at the wonderful Lake Constance from 7th to 9th of August.
This year's proceedings contain the seventeen papers selected for the presentation at the conference out of more than forty submissions. To assure scientific quality, the selection was based on a strict and anonymous review process. The papers cover the following subjects: e-voting experiences, social, legal, political, democratic and security issues of e-voting, as well as solutions on how to (re)design election workflows, and finally how to implement and observe electronic voting systems.

You can order the proceedings in print for EUR 19,70 (+shipping & handling) by sending an e-mail to office@e-voting.cc.
